Moving Escobar? Really?

Given the talk recently about the Jays possibly moving Yunel Escobar has me a little perplexed. I mean, isn’t this the guy they just extended to a team-friendly deal last off-season?  Isn’t this the same guy who performed admirably in 2011 by exceeding his career averages in all of BA, OBP, SLG, OPS?  I think the Jays were confident they were getting an athletic player that can be an above average shortstop in MLB.  Furthermore, I was looking forward to a Escobar/Hechavarria combo to man SS/2B in 2013.  Who plays where is another issue all together.

However in looking at his current 2012 stats, I’m amazed at just how poor of a season Escobar is having.  His OBP is below .300 which sucks big time because Yunel was the Jays’ leadoff hitter just last year where he was able to get on-base at . 369 clip.  His OPS is 150 points below last year’s figure at .626 which totally sucks because any player worth his pay check should be at least the .700 level.  So I guess the Jays have every right to see if they can somehow improve the team by moving Escobar and calling up Hechavarria to take over.

Needless to say, this totally blows when a player doesn’t live up to expectations, doesn’t it?
